Blacknest Ladies Section welcome ladies new to golf as well as more experienced players.
The ladies section of Blacknest Golf & Country Club is small but thriving, and prides itself on being very welcoming to new members and supportive of all its lady golfers. We have a mix of players from absolute beginners through to highly accomplished players.
Ladies day is Thursday (with an alternative day on Saturday). There is also a ladies roll up at noon on a Monday. The qualifying season runs from the beginning of April to the end of September. However, we continue to play during the winter in team competitions.
There is a medal (strokeplay) and a stableford competition every month. The other two days vary between playing fun non-qualifying competitions or special events for a specific trophy. Apart from the medal qualifiers the starts are staggered to ensure most of the ladies can have lunch together after the round.
The Ladies Section also play friendly matches against other local clubs. These tend to be teams of eight playing in pairs. Everyone is encouraged to take part. We are also involved in some of the competitions organised by The Hampshire Ladies Golf Union. Often these competitions are for ladies with specific handicaps.
We are a very sociable section and often a lady will arrange an ‘Away Day’ to another course for anyone who wants to play. The ladies are also invited by the Lady Captain to a two day trip in the late summer to have fun and play for the famous ‘Gold Jacket’.
There are many mixed events during the year which ladies enjoy taking part in. These are team competitions and will involve juniors, men and seniors.
New members are always welcome so if you would like to join our ladies section please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be contacted by the Lady Captain personally who will arrange an opportunity for you to play the course or meet the ladies on one of the playing days.
Once you have a handicap and want to play every week you sign up in advance for the various events in the ladies competition file situated in the bar area. The sign up list is removed from the file ten days before the competition by the Vice Captain. She compiles groups of three, allots tee times and start holes and posts the sheet in the changing room and by email a week before the competition. Attempts are made to give you the opportunity to play with different people, at different times from different holes. This way you quickly get to know us all!
The section is run by a small committee comprised of the Lady and vice Captains, a treasurer, a secretary, the handicap, social and competition secretaries, a charity representative and two others. This ensures the captain has plenty of support for specific events such as ‘Ladies Invitation to Ladies’ and ‘Lady Captain’s Day’.
